Form and roundness measuring instruments

High precision form testers for all occasions

Depending on the function, many mechanical precision components are requiring fewer and fewer deviations from the ideal shape. Tolerances for dimension and form in the sub-micrometre range to the nanometre range are now required in some parts of industrial production. This is particularly important against the background that components sometimes have to be produced in the millions without any alterations over the years. Only the smallest of differences in fitting dimension and spacing are permitted, so that there are no problems in assembly or spare part changes. This is why production metrology is an essential component of the production process.

ACCRETECH has developed a series of roundness and form measuring instruments specifically for these tasks in production metrology. The special feature of this measuring gauges is that the measurements are based on turning movements – resulting in high measurement precision. This means that the system is extremely flexible in probe angle variation: the automatic workpiece alignment ensures high accuracy in measurement and repeatability. The measuring devices scans rotationally symmetrical geometric elements such as planes, cylinders or cones, recording sub-micrometer results and maps the complex measuring sequences. The profile measuring technology is also used to measure micro geometry elements.

ACCRETECH offers its RONDCOM roundness and form measuring instruments in different versions for different levels of automation.

The overview brochure available for free download contains information about the measuring technologies and the product portfolio of ACCRETECH measuring instruments for surface, profile and contour.

Because workpiece machinery, devices and other equipment are subject to wear or inhomogeneity in the material or warping during processing can occur, it’s important to consistently check for deviations in form and position. Deviations in form and position can be the results of faults in the process or quirks in the production method used. A possible effect: Workpieces whose measurement deviations fall within the prescribed tolerance range cannot be joined together.

In contrast to measuring tolerances, form and position tolerances describe deviations from the ideal workpiece geometry that cannot be determined by measuring an individual workpiece position. Two examples: a form tolerance describes the permitted deviation of a shaft cross-section from the prescribed circular shape. A position tolerance, on the other hand, describes the maximum value by which the axis of a drilled hole may deviate from the prescribed ideal position.

Wide range of roundness and form measuring machines

ACCRETECH offers a wide range of instruments for measuring technology with the RONDCOM series for measuring form and position tolerances. They meet various user requirements regarding resolution, precision, component size and application: their rotational accuracy ranges from (0.04+6H/10.000) μm with the RONDCOM TOUCH for self-run tests by workers to (0.01+3H/10.000) μm with the high-end measuring device RONDCOM CREST, whose values make it the most precise profile and surface measuring instrument of its class. With the RONDCOM NEX Rs, two measuring tasks can be performed: the surface quality (roughness) can be measured in addition to the roundness.

Different measuring probes are available depending on the application and measuring system. The ACCRETECH measurement systems are complemented by user-friendly, intuitive to operate software, which can be used to graphically evaluate and record the measurement result.

All RONDCOM form testers include the following technology advantages:

  • An air-cushioned rotary table:
Unlike a mechanically connected rotary table, it has a higher stiffness and long-term stability, for example. Thanks to its no-contact guiding, the measuring results will not be impacted by drive vibrations. It does not wear out. It requires no lubrication. Measuring speeds are higher. With the air-cushioned rotary table, extremely high rotational accuracy of up to 10 nm can be achieved.
  • The patented CNC offset probe head holder:
It tilts and swivels fully automatically under CNC control and thus ideal for aligning measuring elements, which prevents measurement inaccuracies. Furthermore, its innovative construction allows deep measuring positions to be achieved with short, precise, specific probes.
  • The patented dynamic probe head calibration:
It speeds up calibration. With a special magnification standard, calibration is also made easier.
  • A high-resolution LVDT probe head:
LVDT is the abbreviation for “linear variable differential transformer.” It offers a resolution of 2 nm over a wide range of ± 1,000 μm. The high resolution allows alignment routines to be completed in less than a minute.
  • The intuitive to operate ACCTee PRO analysis software:
it can be used to program many RONDCOM machines as well as evaluate and log the measuring results in graph form. Its unique feature is re-measurement at the press of a button. Changes in evaluations such as filters, centring processes or notch saving functions are possible without repeating measurements. The effect on the measuring results is displayed immediately.

To increase measuring throughput, some of the RONDCOM roundness measuring instruments are automatically loaded by robot. This allows entire component pallets to be measured fully automatically and unmanned.

Many accessory products are available for profile measuring instruments in the RONDCOM series: This includes a kit for flexible probe building and various gear scroll chucks for different requirements in different sizes.
